You know that you're not in Kansas anymore when you check in for a flight and they weigh you instead of your luggage. 

I haven't heard anything good about Jamaica this entire trip.  The Caribbean coast of Nicaragua seems like a good alternative.  There is a good mix of Spanish speaking people of Spanish descent, and Creole speaking people of African descent.  The rasta guy on the street corner describes skipping his college classes to drink beer on a street corner as "time management".  I have not bought any , but Marijuana sure is cheap down here.  It is somewhere around $8 an ounce, $100 a pound. 

The big thing that was a shock for me was that contrary to California, the wealthier people speak Spanish.  The guys doing manual labor in the street or working in the kitchen all speak English.
