Happy St.  Patricks Day!

I had talked about trying to fly to Dublin for St.  Patricks Day.  This didn't happen.  It didn't happen for a number of reasons (not necessarily in order):

I flaked
The flight was very expensive
The festivities in Dublin were cancelled due to Foot and Mouth
Instead, I ended up at Balmers hostel in Interlaken Switzerland.  The night was spent drinking green beer and dancing in the Hostel's disco with lots and lots of Americans on vacation.
On Sunday morning I catch a series of trains, up past the ski resorts to the top of Mt.  Jungfrau (translation Mt.  Young Virginal Woman).  It was sunny and a nice warm -9 celsius with great visibility.  I spent an hour hanging out at the top of the mountain sightseeing and exploring the ice caves.

Any amount of exercise at 12,000 feet is a bit of a challenge.  Everyone walks much slower than typical.  However, if you push yourself a bit the lack of oxygen causes a great, almost nitrous, high.  Needless to say I had a lot of fun "skating" down the ice tunnels and then just feeling giddy for a while.

Next stop:  Croatia.

I'm heading home soon, and I'm taking a week of vacation before flying home.  I know Croatia sounds a little crazy, but the latest war is way down in Macedonia, and the landmines are only on the southern borders.  Croatia should have few or none of the American spring breakers.  It looks beautiful from the pictures that I have seen, and it's an easy hop on a train from Milan.  Check out this website:  www.istra.com
