It's 8am in Morro do Sao Paulo. After a night of drinking and dancing and
just over 3 hours of sleep I am now walking down the sand filled streets of
Morro do Sao Paulo in shorts and no shirt. |
|
| 3am |
|
It's a nice relaxing two hour boat ride to Salvador with salt water
crashing over the side of the speedboat. |
| 5am |
|
I return to the hostel in Salvador. I pick up some things that I had left there, and promptly check in for a 2 hour nap. After some sleep, I head out shopping for my last few hours in Salvador. |
| 10:30am |
|
It's now 4:30 in the afternoon. I discover that some friends from the hostel are taking a taxi to the
airport. I can share their cab if I leave NOW. Throw half my clothes in
a plastic bag rather than spending the time to pack them. I'm still
getting dressed in the cab. |
| 1pm |
|
A 2 hour flight in the wrong direction to Rio to catch my international
flight back to the US. |
| 4:30pm |
|
I catch a 9 1/2 hour flight to Newark. |
| 2:30am |
|
I arrive in Newark at 5:30am local time. I laugh at the first people I
see as they are wearing these huge cumbersome jackets and gloves. I explain
that I haven't seen a jacket in 3 months. Ten minutes later I find out that
I'm waiting for a monorail that isn't running to catch a plane that isn't
flying. |
| 5am |
|
As my flight has been cancelled due to 'maintenance' I am redirected to
Oakland via Phoenix. I get on a 4 1/2 hour flight to Phoenix. |
| 10:30am |
|
I catch my fourth and final flight of the day. A two hour flight
to Oakland. |
| 1pm |
|
34 hours after I got on the boat from Morro I arrive in Oakland. It
is raining. |
Despite 34 hours of travelling and a 6 hour time difference I arrived in
California with no jetlag. What it took was
3 days of heavy drinking and late night dancing. I got very little sleep
for those 3 days, so I had no problem sleeping on the planes. In addition, I was up until at least 6am for
those last few nights (midnight in SF) so I was already
on California time. Not only does alcohol cure the common cold, it solves
jetlag too.
