Ode to Sapient - written after only one beer

    4 years at Sapient
That deserves at least a poem

    A.F.I.
Third week at Sapient and and it's already 16 hour days
    7am to 11pm and repeat
    7am to 11pm and repeat
"Wait, stop" I yell "this is too much"
"We'll talk to you later" I'm told, and repeat
    7am to 11pm and repeat
Steve Chen's eye's stop focusing, and repeat
    They talk to me later
"You're doing shitty work" I'm told
"Yes" I agree "it is hard to work without sleep"
I'm almost fired for the first time

    C.I.S.
Tulsa - suffering, agony and pain
    I'm not going out there
San Francisco - I join in
    Dullery, drudgery and pain
"You're not focused, not working hard enough" I'm told
"Yes" I agree "but at least I'm surviving"
"Everyone else is dropping like flies"
    1 quit, 2 quit, 3 quit, 4
I don't quit, but I'm almost fired for the second time

    N.E.G
    Client Sapient Team Me
    Ha Ha Ha Ha
One for all, but not all for one
16 hour days again and I'm not buying it
"It's consulting" I'm told "and required"
"It's unhealthy" I say "bad planning and a fucked up culture"
Friday is here and Paul Revere is riding through the halls
"Layoffs are coming, layoffs are coming"
Saturday, Sunday and I'm deep in thought
After 4 years, could it be me? Could it be me?
What would I do if I had no job?
I know what I would do. I would travel the world
Then I realize, 16 hour days are not for me

    Black Monday
    Layoffs are here
    Will it be me?
    Eaney, Meaney, Miney, Moe
John no, Lynn no, Seema no, Paxton
The meeting request says "It's me"
I guess that 16 hour days were required
"Hello" I say "Goodbye" I say "and thanks for the trip"
"16 hour days are not for me"
Severence check in one hand, plane ticket in the other I head out the door
    See you in Zanzibar

    Now I'm undergoing a transition
Sometimes it's easier to change in fact than in one's mind
    Employed respectable member of society
    Unemployed world travelling writer

To be fair, there were some good times
    Adjacency, iWon, Hallmark
Is it just a strange coincidence
The good projects had names, the bad acronyms

    And an ode to webtracker
    Oh fuck it
    I'm still bitter about that
    need to move on
